Artificial Intelligence and its Applications

 

Artificial intelligence (AI) is a branch of computer science that studies the development of machines and software which requires intelligence like a human and does such tasks without human need. Microsoft word feature grammar and spelling error is an example of artificial intelligence which is a human task but that software does it easily and helps people in word processing tasks. Artificial intelligence has started the revolution of the technological world. Artificial intelligence has provided technical and economical support to businesses and industries.

Let an example of the Manufacturing factory XYZ Limited; there are two sections of operations one sorting and the other packaging. The factory manager has hired more than 50 laborers for that and 5 supervisors to supervise and monitor the operations.  The factory manager planned to transform his factor operations and want to adopt artificial intelligence. He has bought two robots for sorting and packaging.  Artificial intelligence deployment provides both technological and economical benefits to Manufacturing factory XYZ Limited.

John McCarthy is known to be one of the founders of the artificial intelligence discipline. Artificial intelligence has been divided into many branches such as Machine Learning, Natural language processing, Robotics, Fuzzy logic, neural networks, pattern recognition, and data mining.   Artificial intelligence has been used in different areas.

HEALTHCARE

In healthcare, Artificial intelligence has been implemented in medical imaging, cancer detection, drug discovery, genome analytics, and Electronic health records (EHR) analytics. AI is used to automatically detect medical images such as digital X-rays without any expert radiologist or AI can help radiologists in their tasks.

RETAIL

Retail has implemented AI for tasks such as product recommendation, sales prediction, customer prediction market analytics, and chatbots are major applications of AI in the retail industry. The world's top retailer company Walmart has started research and development (R&D) in its intelligent retail lab (IRL) for technological advancement in the retail industry through AI.

MANUFACTURING        

The manufacturing industry is largely using robotics for routine repetitive operations. Industrial Robotic arms are used for sorting, packing, painting, assembly, material handling, material removal, and much more

GOVERNMENT

Governments are using AI for good governance. Different government departments such as Police, Customs, are using AI. Law and enforcement agencies are using AI to control crime. Face recognition and video recognition systems have been used for surveillance, automatic detection of criminals, and monitoring of public activities.

CYBERSECURITY

Advancement in the internet and computer technology has also increased security issues. Cybersecurity is a major area in the world of information technology. Traditional security software such as antivirus, and firewalls are not enough to defend computer systems where threats may be a zero-day attack or state-owned attacks. Avast, FireEye, Microsoft, IBM security, and Symantec have been successfully developed cybersecurity systems using AI.
